This form of printing utilizes a 2 component baked enamel. Although this process may stand up to dishwashing, as a result of recent changes in the marketplace where new citric based material is being added to dishwashing detergents, we can no longer warrantee E-2 for permanence. These citrus based products contain acid which will effect the long term performance of the print. This product is intended for promotional purposes with use in domestic applications and should not be used in a commercial environment. In order to keep the lasting beauty of this product, it should only be hand washed. Where higher durability and performance is required, please refer to the lehr fired product.

Dishwasher Resistance
Machine dishwashing should be avoided for printed products. Hand washing helps maintain their lasting beauty. Our products are somewhat dishwasher resistant, but changes in detergents have created new challenges.
In recent years, many dishwasher detergents have added citric acid. Some formulas contain high concentrations of this acid. This has caused issues across the decorated glassware industry.
Citric acid and alkaline chemicals can sit on glass or ceramic surfaces during the wash cycle. Over time, these chemicals slowly attack the material. This process does not only affect printed designs. It also impacts the surface of the glass or ceramic itself.
As the surface weakens, tiny pieces of the material can break away. This causes the glass to appear pitted, foggy, or cloudy. What looks like scratches is actually surface deterioration. The acids and alkalis soften the material, and repeated washing accelerates the damage.
This same process can also affect Lehr-fired prints. Although Lehr firing is known for its durability, long-term exposure to aggressive detergents can slowly break down the decorated surface. In some cases, the print may gradually fade or wash away.
Interestingly, E-2 printing is often less affected by this chemical reaction. E-2 printing is a baked enamel method. It is similar to the paint used on automobile bodies. This finish tends to resist chemical attack from detergents more effectively.
However, E-2 printing is less scratch resistant than Lehr firing. While it handles detergent chemistry better, it may show wear from physical abrasion sooner than Lehr-fired decoration.
Commercial dishwashers operate differently. They typically use different chemical formulas and shorter wash cycles. Because of this, the problem described above is rarely seen in commercial environments.
For this reason, Lehr firing is usually recommended for commercial applications, where glassware is washed frequently in commercial machines. In domestic settings, where promotional glassware is commonly used, E-2 printing often performs better under modern dishwasher conditions.
These recommendations represent the best balance for current market conditions. In situations where decorative transfers must be used, Lehr firing remains the only available option.
Although these issues are relatively rare, they do occur. For the longest life and best appearance, hand washing is always recommended whenever possible.

Stainless Steel Tumblers and Cups
All stainless steel tumblers and cups should always be hand washed. Because of their construction, they should never be placed in a dishwasher.
